Asbestos was a common component in building materials for decades until 1981 when the Environmental Protection Agency began looking into banning the dangerous fibers. Unfortunately, asbestos has never been fully banned from being used in products used in the United States, so asbestos testing and remediation continues to be an important practice for property owners.
